Introduction
TENTH NORTHERN ILLINOIS SOARING CHAMPIONSHIPSAPRIL 18 THROUGH OCTOBER 18, 1998SPONSORED BY THE CHICAG0LAND GLIDER COUNCILThe NISC is open to anyone interested in having some fun cross country soaring. The rules are set up to eliminate most of the obstacles that prevent most people from getting into cross country racing while still retaining the fun and competition. They are also set up to eliminate all of the normal ground support personnel required to operate a regular contest except the scorer and someone to print and mail out the results. You can use any sailplane and will be scored on a handicap system. Use any 126 or 35MM camera with color film or use the read out from a GPS. We use any airport in the latest Illinois airport book for turn points or any airport on the sectional if you go out of state. The following RLA's are also allowed; Chicago Glider Club, Wade, Meadow Creek, Niznik, Prairie Lake, Leland, Sky Soaring, Casa De Aero, Olson, & Landings. You may use your start point as a turnpoint. Clow field may not be used as a turnpoint A maximum of six turnpoints are allowed on each flight. This is to accommodate the computer program. Camera can be hand held or mounted. The most south or west end of the runway is the turn point and the other end is the photo target. We want contest type photos unless you are on a badge flight. Runway 12-30 shoot towards the southeast, 13-31 shoot towards the northwest Here's how you do it. Take a picture of a start board with your name and date on it or take a picture of your tail number with a data-back camera with the date showing. Take off and fly over the start airport (an airport in northern Ill.) at or below 3240 ft. AGL and record your own start time (if you have a radio, please announce start and finish times over the radio). Go to any turnpoints you wish and take a picture. You cannot use a turnpoint again until you have passed two other turn points. The minimum time on course is ore hour and the minimum distance is 30 Nautical miles handicap distance (30 divided by your handicap factor). Take your finish time over the finish airport, fill out the landing sheet and send it in to Rudy Kunda within one week of the flight. If you don't use all of the film, leave it in the camera and use it on another flight and send it in later. All scores will be tentative until films are read. Any day between April 18 through October 18, 1998 can be used as a contest day as long as at least three pilots fly a minimum distance of 30 Handicap miles and turn the flight in. As an added incentive to fly longer tasks we give bonus of .1% for each mile flown over the minimum 30. If you flew 130 handicap miles at a speed of 40 kts. you would receive a credited speed of 44 kts. with the bonus. This year we plan to add a bonus for completing a task that was declared before take off. 0f course this is just a brief outline. To register and receive a complete set of rules, send Fifteen Dollars to Rudy or Neal and we will send you a pilot kit including a full set of rules and landing sheets. If you would just like a copy of the rules, send five bucks to Neal Ridenour to cover the cost of printing and mailing. Feel free to write or call either of us if you have any questions.
