Dear fellow Soaring enthusiast;

Thank you for your interest in this years Region 7 Soaring contest. This 7 day contest will be held at the Freeport Airport from May 30 - June 5, 2004. The Freeport Airport is located just outside the city of Freeport Illinois approximately 100 miles northwest of Chicago on U.S. Rt-20. A practice day is scheduled for Saturday May 29, with the contest running from Sunday May 30 to Saturday June 5.

This contest is sponsored by the ChicagoLand Glider Council (CLGC) for the benefit of SSA competition sailplane pilots. We expect to have a safe and enjoyable event this year. We expect enough entries to support 15 Meter, Standard, and Sports classes contests. Both FAI classes and sports class will use GPS flight recorders for scoring. The contest organizers may attempt to supply GPS flight recorders to sports class pilots who do not currently own one. Please send email to the contest manager when registering requesting a loaner GPS. We will try to accomidate sports class pilots in this matter.

As per SSA regional contest rule 10.8.5.1.1, the sports class contest will use the "Honor Start" method for complying with the maximum start gate height. This rule allows sports class pilots to use non-altitude recording GPS flight recorders (e.g., Garmin 90).

There is a $350 registration fee for this contest. Check the Fees and Charges page for more details.

More about the American Polish Aero Club

"The American Polish Aero Club was created in 1991 with 25 members. In 1993 we bought our first glider, the Blanik L-23. And in 1998 we bought our own tow plane, the Maule 180. Right now we own three gliders (Blanik L-23, SGS2-33, and SGS1-36) and the tow plane. In 1999 we started flying at Freeport. They are nice people, they have long runways and there isn't too much traffic. Right now our club consists of 35 active members."
